Welcome to St. Mary’s Pavilion Imaging CT Department
Registration
When you arrive on the 2nd floor of the Advanced Medicine Pavilion you will be greeted by our Patient Access Team where you will register for your appointment.
Pavilion Imaging Entrance
We have ACR Accreditation and we understand the importance of this great distinction!
Waiting Area
Pavilion Imaging is open 7:00-5:30, Monday thru Friday and 7:30-4:00 on Saturday. Where you will wait shortly for your technologist or drink your oral contrast if it is necessary for your test.
IV Start Area
Your exam may require an IV for contrast use, if your physician has deemed this necessary. A technologist will place your IV.
CT Scan Room
Computed tomography, more commonly known as a CT or CAT scan, is a diagnostic medical imaging test. Like traditional x-rays, it produces multiple images or pictures of the inside of the body. They can even generate three-dimensional images.
What to expect with CT
The CT scanner is typically a large, donut-shaped machine with a short tunnel in the center. You will lie on a narrow examination table that slides in and out of this short tunnel.
For some CT exams, a contrast material is used to enhance visibility in the area of the body being studied. Modern CT scanners can scan through large sections of the body in just a few seconds, and even faster in small children. Such speed is beneficial for all patients. It's especially beneficial for children, the elderly and critically ill – anyone who finds it difficult to stay still, even for the brief time necessary to obtain images.
For children, the CT scanner technique will be adjusted to their size and the area of interest to reduce the radiation dose.
Common CT scans and indications
Radiologists and radiation oncologists often use the CT examination to:
quickly identify injuries to the lungs, heart and vessels, liver, spleen, kidneys, bowel or other internal organs in cases of trauma.
guide biopsies and other procedures such as abscess drainages and minimally invasive tumor treatments.
plan for and assess the results of surgery, such as organ transplants or gastric bypass.
stage, plan and properly administer radiation treatments for tumors as well as monitor response to chemotherapy.
With you from start to finish
The technologist will always be able to see, hear and speak with you through a built-in intercom system. However, you will be alone in the exam room during the CT scan, unless there are special circumstances. For example, sometimes a parent wearing a lead shield may stay in the room with their child.
With pediatric patients, a parent may be allowed in the room but will be required to wear a lead apron to minimize radiation exposure.
After a CT exam, the technologist will remove the intravenous line used to inject the contrast material. The tiny hole made by the needle will be covered with a small dressing. You can return to your normal activities.
Radiologist reading room.
A radiologist, a doctor trained to supervise and interpret radiology exams, will analyze the images. The radiologist will send a signed electronic report to your healthcare provider. Your provider will inform you of the results per their protocol.

Overview
A positron emission tomography (PET) scan is an imaging test that helps reveal how your tissues and organs are functioning. A PET scan uses a radioactive drug (tracer) to show this activity. This scan can sometimes detect disease before it shows up on other imaging tests.
A PET scan is useful in revealing or evaluating several conditions, including many cancers, heart disease and brain disorders. Often, PET images are combined with CT or MRI scans to create special views.
Radiologist reading room.
A radiologist, a doctor trained to supervise and interpret radiology exams, will analyze the images. The radiologist will send a signed electronic report to your healthcare provider. Your provider will inform you of the results per their protocol.

Welcome to St. Mary’s Pavilion Imaging US department.
Pavilion Imaging is open 7:00-5:30, Monday thru Friday.
We are ACR Accredited and we understand the importance of this great distinction!
Registration
When you arrive on the 2nd floor of the Advanced Medicine Pavilion you will be greeted by our Patient Access Team. You will register for your appointment and they will escort you into the ultrasound waiting area.
Waiting area
A member of the ultrasound team will greet you and direct you to the exam room for your appointment.
Ultrasound room
The ultrasound room consists of a bed, computer, and the Ultrasound Machine
Ultrasound Machine
Ultrasound scanners consist of a computer console, video display screen and an attached transducer. The transducer is a small hand-held device that resembles a microphone.
Ultrasound imaging is based on the same principles involved in the sonar used by bats, ships and fishermen. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to create an image of the inside of the body.
In medicine, ultrasound is used to detect changes in the appearance of organs, tissues, and vessels and to detect abnormal masses, such as tumors.
Ultrasound is used to help physicians evaluate symptoms such as:
pain
swelling
infection
Ultrasound is a useful way of examining many of the body's internal organs, including but not limited to the:
abdominal organs
uterus, ovaries, and unborn child (fetus) in pregnant patients
thyroid
scrotum (testicles)
Infant brain, hips and spine
veins and arteries of the arms and legs
Ultrasound is also used :
breast imaging and guidance for biopsy of breast abnormalities
For most ultrasound exams, you will lie face-up on an exam table. Patients may be turned to either side to improve the quality of the images.
The sonographer will apply warm gel to the area of the body being studied. The gel will help the transducer make secure contact with the body and eliminate air pockets between the transducer and the skin that can block the sound waves from passing into your body.
There is usually little to no discomfort from pressure as the transducer is pressed against the area being examined.
Once the imaging is complete, the gel will be wiped off your skin. Any portions that are not wiped off will dry quickly. The ultrasound gel does not usually stain or discolor clothing..
After an ultrasound examination, you should be able to resume your normal activities immediately.
